I recently had the keys to Mazda’s newest three row SUV – the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV in the Premium Plus trim. I’ve had a week with the machine which was just enough time to learn just what makes it special and a few of the features that left me scratching my head. Enjoy the PROs and CONs of the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus.
PRO: Great Looks
I always comment that looks are subjective, but much of the market looks worse than this great looking SUV.
PRO: Simplistic Infotainment
The more great tech that gets thrown at our vehicle interiors the more complicated they get. When someone keeps it simple it needs to get called out and praised. The infotainment in the CX-90 (like in many Mazda vehicles) has 5 main menu options: Information, Entertainment, Communication, Navigation, and Settings.
PRO: The Available Electric Power
The best thing about getting the PHEV model is just that you get that hybrid power. Not only do you get 323 horsepower, but you can also get up to 26 miles of range on electric power alone.
CON: Is the Third Row Useful?
It has a third row. I can confirm it is there, but besides some children your adult friends bumming a ride will have a bad time in the back.
CON: Pricey Mazda
The base CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus starts at $57,450, for comparison the PHEV Preferred starts at $49,945. ($7505 difference) Not only is it pricey in its own model line up, but if you check a few boxes and you have yourself a $60-70k Mazda.
CON: Hard Plastics
If you are paying $60-70k for a Mazda you would prefer the interior to not come with such cheap plastics. There are plenty of great interior features such as the digital screens and the quality leather sprinkled throughout, but the hard plastic center console is a bit let down.
