I recently was fortunate to get behind the wheel of Volkswagen’s new unique electric SUV the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro S. The ID.4 has been around the block since 2021, but after my first chance behind the wheel I wanted to highlight just which of its features are best and which I didn’t like. Enjoy the PROs and CONs of the ’23 ID.4 AWD Pro S.
PRO: Simple Interior
Looking at the interior of the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 AWD Pro S the easiest thing to notice is the simplicity. The drive controls ditch a gear lever for a little turn nob up on the gauge cluster and the rest of the lower center console is limited to an AUX port, cup holders, and some USB slots.
PRO: Full Electric
The ID.4 Pro S comes, as the product line intended, with full electric power. The Pro gives it a 82 kWh battery which propels the ID.4 with 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. You won’t win any awards, but it gives you 255 miles of range. You get near 30 more miles if you opt for the rear-wheel-drive only model.
PRO: Large Infotainment Screen
A larger 12.3-inch standard screen was added for 2023. It probably feels larger than it is due to the smaller and to-the-point gauge cluster screen, but it is large nonetheless.
PRO: Drive Modes and Customization
The ID.4 comes packed with plenty of drive modes which will make your driving experience different with a press of a button. The drive modes are Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Traction. There is also a Custom mode which allows you to pick just which options from the standard drive modes you want to your own personal mode.
CON: Too Much Touch
While we love the simplicity of the interior a lot of the clutter was hidden behind some multi-function touch buttons and it isn’t the best experience. Did I press? Opps, double pressed. No that isn’t what I wanted.
