When VIR gives you lemons, make lemonade. It’s been almost a year since we first visited Sneed Speed, and since then we have continued developing a relationship with the shop out of Pfafftown, NC. So from time to time, I like to check in with Chris and see what they’re working on.
This 2009 Chevy Corvette Z06 came into their shop in need of some body work. The owner Kevin had an unfortunate incident at VIR and decided it was time to add some additional safety equipment to his track car. He contracted Sneed to build a custom 8-point cage with NASCAR door bars, fully TIG welded and bright blue paint with base clear coat. It also received Sparco seats, window nets, fire system, battery kill switch, race cool driver cooling system and defog system (as the factory HVAC was removed). Z06’s have aluminum frames, so the cage has to be bolted to the frame with sandwich plates made of steel that the steel cage can then be welded to. It’s an impressive build.
Take a look at Sneed’s Imgur page below and see for yourself.
