Spotlight: Jens Winther Racing Castrol sponsored BMW M1

In 1983, Jens Winther became the first Danish racer to compete in the famed 24 hours of Le Mans. Jens piloted a Warsteiner sponsored BMW M1 which unfortunately was retired before the race was finished. Jens returned the following year with a team of his own, piloting a Castrol sponsored BMW M1 in the 1984 24h Le Mans.

As luck would have it, disaster struck when the front suspension failed, forcing Jens Winther to retire once again. It was Jens Winther racing’s first and last BMW M1 entry at the 24h Le Mans race.

In 1985 Jens competed in C2 class and things were looking bright until the engine blew during the night stint. In 1986 the Danish team made history, becoming the first Danish team to finishing Le Mans, ending 11th overall and taking second place in the C2 category. This was last international race of Jens Winther’s racing career.
