I made the call to Volkswagen today to confirm that I will be at the Phoenix testing for the TDI Cup!
I will be flying out of Baltimore-Washington International(BWI) to Phoenix Sky Harbor International(PHX) Airport next Wednesday(April 2) and testing for 4 days at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona. The representative I spoke with said they invited 180 people! About 40 have already declined and more are expected to drop out as the deadline is coming soon for payment. So, roughly, out of the 100 or so people testing, only 30 will be getting a full season seat. The others who do not make the cut, get a full refund of their $15,000. This will be cutthroat competition for sure.
Testing itinerary:
-karting
-autox testing
– media/interview/personality test
-written test
-2 days of physical fitness training
On Sunday(April 6), VW will announce the selected drivers and then another obstacle from there, the selected 30 must find an additional $20,000 by April 21, right before the first race @ Virginia International Raceway(VIR), on April 25-26.
Wish me luck! I will do my absolute best to secure one of those seats. There is no turning back for me now. It is either make or break. 🙂
