I’ve driven plenty of Mazda SUVs in the past few years. The CX-5, CX-7, and CX-90, but now Mazda provided the keys to their newest SUV the CX-70. I tested it out for a week in the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Premium Plus trim. As I normally do, I wanted to get right to what features really screamed at me as well as what let me down. Here are the PROs and CONs of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Premium Plus.
PRO: Simple Infotainment System
There are better infotrainment systems, but I will always love the simplistic layout of Mazda’s. 5 main options (plus Android Auto/Apple Car Play): Information, Entertainment, Communication, Navigation, and Settings. It is all you need.
PRO: Good Looker
Pretty much all of Mazda’s SUV offerings look good and the same is with the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Premium Plus. Looks are subjective, of course.
PRO: Driving Experience
Being behind the wheel of the CX-70 is a great place to be. Full digital display right at your eyes, that infotainment I love at the touch of a dial. Mi-Drive drive modes at the flip of a dial, and the steering just feels great. All around a nice place to sit and drive.
PRO: Strong Engine Powerplant
The CX-70 Turbo S’s engine isn’t going to win any awards, but its 3.3-liter turbocharged inline 6 engine produces 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Pretty well respectable numbers for an SUV not trying to be touted as a performance vehicle.
CON: Hard Plastic Interior
I really loved the interior of CX-5s and CX-7s from the last few years, but with the CX-70 some of the Mazda styling was changed to include big junks of hard plastics on the interior particularly on the center console. Not a fan of it.
CON: Off Road Mode
The drive modes, which Mazda calls Mi-Drive, aren’t to complicated. You get Normal, Sport, and Off Road. Well Normal obviously the standard start up mode of the vehicle, while Sport will liven up the throttle and rev range a bit, but Off Road is a strange mode to see on a CX-70. Who is really Off Roading CX-70s enough for them to have this the name of a mode? Prove me wrong, but there are some serious off road capable vehicles on the market that don’t even have an off-road mode.
