To sell the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet uses the slogan: “The Car You Didn’t See Coming”. And that’s kind of true isn’t it? Where the hell did this thing come out from? That slogan is also a lot better than the “The Car You Knew America Could Build” one they used when the god awful first generation Malibu was reborn back in 1997.
As if to say: “All our other cars before this were utter pieces of crap”.
Thankfully, GM has done things right this time. The 2016 Malibu not only looks fantastic, it’s also filled with substance and finally feels like a quality product. There’s a funky new interior filled with cool tech, and three efficient new engine choices, two of them being turbocharged, the other being a hybrid. Nice.
But is this enough for midsize sedan buyers to finally take notice? This is a tough crowd, one which is dominated by the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. And with fresh and attractive new offerings from Mazda, VW, and Ford, why should anyone go for the Chevy sedan?
