You may not have heard of it (I hadn’t), but you will. The Gambler is an off-road rally, in the sense of a gathering of like minded people rather than a stage rally. You need a $500 beater car, and there’s no entry fee. There are no rules in a knife fight, nor in the Gambler. Fun is more important than rules. Winning doesn’t matter – in fact, you get a prize for coming in fifth, and a penalty for being first.
Ike talks with Tate Morgan, the guy who started this madness, about how the Gambler came to be, and how it has exploded into several Gambler events across the US. They discuss what’s involved in “competing” (I use that term loosely), and Tate tries to convince Ike to bring his Volvo wagon out to play. Need a co-driver?
