2024 Land Rover Defender 110 S: Pros and Cons

2024 Land Rover Defender 110 S hero

Land Rover threw me the keys to the 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 S so I took it on a mini road trip for a wedding to the mountains of Western Maryland. Spending a week with the vehicle spending hours on the road and getting to take it on some light off pavement time I think it has give me the experience behind the wheel to talk about just what makes the Defender 110 S special.

PRO: Rugged Functionality

The 2024 Land Rover Defender 110 S looks like it can climb a mountain both inside and outside. It is just leaking rugged functionality on all four corners. Nearly the whole dashboard is an “oh sh!t” grab handle, cubby space, and trays are sprinkled about the cabin. It all looks cool, but is all useful too.

PRO: Off Road Technology

There are tons of off road pages and screens providing off road data points. Slope angles, compass and coordinates, wheel information, wade sensing, 4×4 information, energy impact, and more. Also, plenty of off-road external cameras for when getting a bit too close to rocks.

PRO: Luxury Interior

Not only can you climb most trails with ease you are basically surrounded by luxury materials and features all around. Full digital gauge cluster, 10 inch navigation screen, Meridan audio system, grained leather seats, and a panoramic roof are just some of the features that let you feel like a Bond villain.

PRO: Performance

The Defender 110 S I tested was powered by the 3.0 liter V6 engine which provides just under 400 horsepower, 395 to be exact and 406 lb-ft of torque. Just a generation ago V6 muscle cars only had 300 horsepower and here you get basically 400. The thing moves.

PRO: Good Looking Off Roader

You can climb a mountain and you get to roll around like a Bond villain. Looks are subjective, but this thing looks good.

CON: Price

The MSRP as standard on the Defender 110 S I tested was $67,900. After checking a bunch of boxes like the Cold Climate Pack, Family Comfort Pack, Air Suspension Pack, and literally 10 other options this rig was $83,528.

CON: Fuel Efficiency

That performance I mentioned means the Defender likes to drink too. It averages under 20 miles per gallon. 17 city, 20 highway, for 18 combined.
