I have tested quite a few Mazda’s but I haven’t actually driven any Mazda MX-5 Miata’s of any generation. So this has been a long time coming to get behind the wheel of the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring. After spending a week with this street legal go kart I wanted to provide you with the PROs and CONs of all the features that are most noteworthy with Mazda’s newest MX-5 Miata.
PRO: Handling
All of that handles like its on rails talk generally uses the MX-5 Miata as a benchmark. Other OEMs wish they could just copy/paste how this thing feels around corners.
PRO: Size
The 2024 MX-5 Miata, like many generation, is quite a small vehicle. The bonus of that is you can fit it in any parking spot and just about anywhere.
PRO: Alive in Sport Mode
The 2024 Miata’s 181 horsepower 2.0-liter engine is pretty alive on its own, but flicking that little sport mode switch will awake the angry little machine.
PRO: Fuel Economy
The 2024 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring has pretty great fuel economy. It can achieve 26 city, 35 highway, for a combined 29 miles per gallon.
CON: Over 6 Foot Problems
I am halfway to 7 feet tall and I just really didn’t fit in the vehicle. You could have different results if your body is shorter when compared to your legs, but I am quite proportional and I was only comfortable with the roof down and my knees were still against the dash.
CON: Basic Interior
The interior of the MX-5 Miata is quite basic. It does have a large infotainment screen with the simple operating system I enjoy, but everything else is on the basic side of the coin. The gauge cluster is mostly analog with an after thought digital circle, after thought cup holders, and 90s like knobs for HVAC controls.
