2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71: Pros and Cons

Chevrolet recently threw me the keys to the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71. The Colorado Z71 might be the most unique Colorado Chevy offers as it provides the best of both worlds in the on-road and off-road departments. After spending a week with Chevy’s new mid-size rig I wanted to go through the features that really caught my eye and also what I would change. Enjoy the PROs and CONs of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado Z71:

PRO: Takes Off Road Seriously

The Colorado Z71 might not be the top trim ZR2, but it does take off serious enough in its own right. You get some special wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber, an off-road drive mode, as well as some off-road screens showcasing details such as steering angle, pitch, and roll of the vehicle.

PRO: Tech Loaded

Gone is the old Colorado you know, but it has been like this for a while. Full crisp clear gauge cluster with a crisp digital navigation screen highlight the cabin. Options and settings for everything.

PRO: Interior is Pretty Great

I just mentioned the great tech on the inside, but overall the interior of the Colorado Z71 is a great place to be. Leather sprinkled in the right places in the cabin, while tech is sprinkled everywhere else.

PRO: Aggressive Exterior

For a while, the best Chevy’s were the ones where chrome disappeared and with this generation Colorado, chrome is all but gone. It all makes for an angrier looking Colorado.

PRO: Tons of Cabin Space

Being a truck, some space maybe expected to be lost, but with the Colorado Z71 if you lopped the bed off you would have a pretty roomy SUV.

CON: The Best Colorado is Less than $7k Away

This isn’t the Colorado I can recommend you buy. It is a great truck, but I cannot recommend it because the Colorado I want is only $7k away from this one. You have the Trail Boss Colorado starting at $38k and the ZR2 coming in at $48k. I really am a Trail Boss or ZR2 guy and those are the ones that get my stamp of approval.

CON: Z71 Trim Level is Confusing

Really grasping at straws here as it is a strong truck, but being a long time Chevy guy from the vehicles I grew up with the Z71 might confuse you too. Z71 is a code seen for years in Chevy trucks, but on the big boy Silverado it is a package, while on the Colorado it is a trim.

LT, Trail Boss, even ZR2 all match up Colorado vs Silverado, but Z71 makes it confusing. Just buy the ZR2 haha!
