Rolls Royce has goofed in the past. They took nearly 100 years to build a SUV again. Now I know what you’re saying… “Again? Rolls Royce has never built a SUV before”. Well technically you’re right, but in the Spirit Of Ecstasy, Rolls Royce built SUVs before way before they were cool, or a thing really. Rolls Royce started off building SUVs in the 20s with the Silver Ghost. It was a body on frame vehicle just like the new Cullinan. Now look at this.
This is a 1920 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. Does that look familiar? That car sits tall, has a boxed roof line, and is extremely large. That is a danged SUV. Now, if you have read my articles before, you know I am a defender of the SUV. In this way, the Cullinan is perfect. Until recently, if a very, very wealthy person wanted an exotic, luxury SUV, their option was a Range Rover Autobiography or a custom one off Bentley designed for a Sultan. That’s it. There has never been anything that would truly set apart the wealthy from rich.
Lambast Rolls Royce all you would like, but this is the vehicle they should have been building all these years. More luggage space, easier for the passengers to ingress and egress, and it adds to utter “I am not just richer, but much better then you will ever be” look that Rolls Royce should be pushing. So good job Rolls Royce. You’ve done it. You finally started building the car that you had near perfected nearly a century ago.
The next stop is obvious. I am expecting the Cullinan Convertible. Let’s get on it RR.
