2026 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro: Pros & Cons

2026 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro hero

The 2026 4Runner TRD Pro is the one to buy if you want a trail rig that looks the part and has the hardware to back it up. The hybrid setup is the strongest Toyota has ever put in a 4Runner, and the adjustable suspension, bigger tires, and extra ground clearance make it the most serious version Toyota sells. Add the one year only Wave Maker blue and the integrated light bar, and it gets noticed anywhere you park it

PRO: Hybrid Powerplant

The TRD Pro’s hybrid makes up to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft, with peak torque at 1,700 rpm, and it’s the most powerful setup Toyota has ever offered in a 4Runner. That’s 48 hp and 148 lb-ft more than the standard gas engine’s 278 hp and 317 lb-ft

PRO: Off Road Parts

Toyota fits FOX adjustable shocks with remote reservoirs and 33 inch Toyo Open Country tires on 18 inch wheels. You can manually adjust the compression damping to match the terrain.

PRO: Off Road Ability

Ground clearance is up to 10.1 inches, with a 33 degree approach angle and a 24 degree departure angle. Only the Trailhunter matches it in the 4Runner lineup, and it’s a step up from the 9.1 inches on the TRD Off-Road. Also, Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism is standard on the TRD Pro. It lets the suspension flex more on uneven trails, and on lower trims it’s an option at best.

PRO: Yearly TRD Pro Color

Wave Maker, a bright blue, is the exclusive 2026 TRD Pro color and the 11th unique TRD Pro color since Inferno debuted in 2015. It’s a big break from recent earth tones like Terra and Mudbath, as normal that makes a Wave Maker a one year only color.

PRO: Lights

The TRD Pro comes standard with RIGID fog lamps and a special 20 inch TRD Pro lightbar is built right into the grill and controllable via a special TRD button in the cabin.

CON: Lower Towing with TRD Pro

The TRD Pro is rated at 5,800 pounds, while most other 4Runner grades are rated at 6,000. It’s a small gap, but it’s odd that the most expensive trim tows less.

CON: Pricey Compared to the Next Off Road Trim

A TRD Off-Road 4WD runs about $50,490, which is roughly $18,000 under the TRD Pro. It still has a locking rear differential and real trail hardware, so the extra money mostly buys the FOX shocks, the tires, and the look.
