I haven’t been behind the wheel of the new generation Tacoma, but fortunately Toyota threw me the keys to the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road for a week. The TRD Off Road is the last off road trim before you get to the dual kings of the Trailhunter and TRD Pro models, so I wanted to go through what are the best features and some things I want more from the TRD Off Road. Enjoy the PROs and CONs of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road.
PRO: Off Road Capability
While even the most base Tacoma like a SR5 can likely get you out of any though spots the more off road trims like the TRD Off Road make it easy. The TRD Off Road features an electronically controlled locking rear differential, stabilizer disconnect, and multi-terrain select with crawl control.
PRO: Drive Modes
Through the twist of a knob you can change up how your Tacoma responds through different drive modes. Eco, normal, and sport modes are available which effectively change up how the engine responds and just how fuel efficient you want it to be.
PRO: Towing
Unique that the base trim SR5 has a better towing maximum weight at 6500 pounds, but the TRD Off Road is capable of towing 6300 pounds which is pretty good for what it can do on a trail.
PRO: Fuel Efficiency
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road is capable of 19 city, 23 highway, and 21 combined miles per gallon.
PRO: Toyota Resale Value
While the recent global events have certainly affected the car market, Toyota resale value hasn’t gone anywhere particularly with a Tacoma.
CON: Tame Looks
If you find yourself next to a Trailhunter or TRD Pro, while it features the name TRD Off Road it looks more SR5 which I don’t feel is right. I would like a TRD Off Road to look more angry and agressive.
