Build Your Own Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

Its that time again, time to daydream.  Time to pretend you’re the Wolf of Wall Street, but with more modern day automotive choices.  Although we love the Countach.  Today’s candidate comes from Italy and is a true hypercar, its time to build your own Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.  Launched in 2012, this Maranello-built beauty comes correct with a great configurator.  In fact, I spent time looking for a good “build your own” today and man a lot of automakers are boring.  Online at least.  BMW, oh boy that was dull.  Alfa Romeo wouldn’t let me build anything.  Mercedes would, but got stuck at “Initializing” so the AMG GT I was going to build will have to wait.  No, today belongs to the F12, which aside from the theFerrari LaFerrari, is the superest hypercar in Ferrari’s stable.  Packing a 6.3L V12 engine (Code name F140 FC in the Berlinetta), this 599 replacement brings a whopping 730 HP and 509 ft-lbs of TQ.  Sweet, let’s build one.

Their configurator is very cool.  You can toggle back and forth between the build your own section and this page you see above.  Here you can rotate the car, turn off the sun and make it dark (turning on the F12s headlights and foglights, and see the inside from two different perspectives.  Very slick.  Time to paint this sucker.

I went with Blu Scozia, one of the Ferrari historical colors, famously worn on the 1959 250 GT SWB.  Historically, it has been used it on cars taking part in the Tourist Trophy. Ferrari calls it a “strong yet elegant statement”.  I agree.  Wheel time.

Wheel choices are seen above.  Several I liked, none I loved unfortunately but I picked a pair of 20″ forged dark painted rims and went over to the paint booth to put some color on my calipers.

While there were plenty of interesting colors, I thought having “scuderia” in the name would give my brakes even more stopping power.  Time to open up the option catalog and go freakin nuts.

As you can see, I chose quite a few options.  NOTE: no prices are given, if you have to ask…well you know the rest.  Of note is the chrome grill, which normally I would have blacked out, but not on a Ferrari.  It reminds me of the classic F-cars like the California (the old one, not the 250 GT version that went out Cameron’s Dad’s window).  Some of the rest I did opt for a few carbon accents and blackout pieces to add some aggression to the F12, as if it needs it.  The handy magnifying glass above pops about like a spastic puppy showing you whatever you just selected that will likely cost you more than some hatchbacks.  Then my “session ended” because I was writing this damn article and I thought all was lost. But kudos to the Maranello IT department, it was all still there when it started over.  Whew.  Inside we go.

Now the seats and here’s where my race-boy background came out.  Instead of something that would likely be ridiculously comfortable on a cross country trip to Napa, I went full carbon fibre racing seat.  Oof, that could be a pain somewhere around Kansas.  Corn…corn…tornado…corn.  Fuck me.

The rest was pretty impressive, there were tons of options to choose from inside.  As a high end buyer, Ferrari will build the car you want to the extreme detail.  It’s impressive.  Here’s my final F12.
