The Lane Motor Museum is already one of the coolest places on earth, but within the already overwhelming basement area is a wooden wall. Most people touring the basement might not even notice it. So, what is being hid in near plain site? Well, this is where around 50 cars from the Nissan Heritage Collection are stored. Nissan relocated its North American Headquarters to Franklin Tennessee, about 20 minutes south of Downtown Nashville, in 2008. When they moved, the Nissan Heritage Museum in California was closed and the were brought to the Lane for storage.
Now, don’t expect to be able to call the Lane and ask for tours of this private area. It is leased to Nissan and only they have access to get in on a daily basis. It has been open for tours in the past, but it is on a rare occasion. So how did I get access? Well as a Nashville resident and Lane Volunteer, I have come to meet some of the Nissan employees who volunteer the fleet of historic models, concept cars, race cars, rare production models, and whatever else is special enough for Nissan to keep to themselves. I hosted a Rally of Nashville this past weekend and they were gracious enough to let my guest and I access this amazing space. Since so few people will ever be able to see it in person, I figured I would bring it to your computer screens. Here is what I will call a “photo-dump” from my camera. Enjoy!
