The American Le Mans Series is the only series in the world to allow such amazing access to spectators. On this day the cars left the paddock at 9 AM for morning practice before settling on the grid. The front straight is packed with fans. It’s a once in a lifetime chance to get up close and personal to both driver and machine. By 10:30 AM the announcement to clear the grid has been made but it takes another half hour to clear the area. The crowd stands for the National Anthem and a massive American flag carried by a sky diver lands. The engines fire and the pace car leads the field around the track. By turn 10 the lights are off as the pace car takes to the pit road. The green flag drops and 2011 Petit Le Mans is on!
The battle between Audi and Peugeot is fierce.
The newest entry to GT class is the Jet Alliance Lotus Evora.
Aston Martin Racing is back with Gulf liveried entries in both LMP1 and GT class.
As the laps go by the crowded field begins to space apart.
The battles within classes are inevitable.
The Team Falken Porsche 911 GT3 RSR powers out of turn 6.
All eyes are on the Audi Sport R18. Unfortunately their efforts were not enough as Peugeot Sport Total took the checkered flag at Petit Le Mans for the third straight year.
Level 5 took the LMP2 class win by over eight laps when mechanical problems plagued the competition.
AF Corse held off Flying Lizard and BMW to take the GT class win.
