Brian Williams over at Spiedbilde (and not Autoblog, or RFD, or any of the other sites with their name emblazed across the photos) spied the new BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe out testing with minimal camouflage. Even with the tape over the BMW badge, it’s pretty obvious what we’re looking at here. The new 8-series, which is clearly an even numbered car, thus denoting a 2-door, will be obviously called a Gran Coupe, even though it will, in fact, have four doors. As you can see below.
It’s a big four door a well, the overall length of the 8-series sedan will be much closer to that of midsize pick-up than much else in the BMW showroom. Read headroom aside, I’m a big fan of the 4-door coupe concept. The initial BMW implementation of that genre wasn’t a big hit, but lately their 4-door 2-doors have been pretty impressive. This spy shot, likely of an M850i looks like more of a good thing.
