Recently, I had the chance to get behind the wheel of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT, the newest and most rugged addition to Hyundai’s all-electric lineup. With its bold styling, off-road upgrades, and tech-rich interior, the XRT aims to combine electric efficiency with adventure-ready capability. It’s designed for drivers who want the benefits of an EV without giving up the freedom to explore beyond the pavement.
In this review, I’ll break down the PROs and CONs of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT to help you decide if this adventurous electric crossover fits your lifestyle and driving goals.
PRO: Off Road Capability

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT enhances its off-road credentials with a lifted suspension and all-terrain tires, allowing it to tackle dirt paths and uneven terrain more confidently than the standard model. Its improved approach and departure angles, along with terrain-specific drive modes, give drivers added control and capability when venturing off the pavement.
PRO: Drive Modes and Terrain Modes
The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT features both standard Drive Modes—such as Eco, Normal, and Sport—and specialized Terrain Modes, including Snow, Mud, and Sand, to suit a wide range of driving environments. This dual-mode system allows drivers to seamlessly switch between performance, efficiency, and off-road capability with just a turn of a dial. Note – the Drive Modes and Terrain Modes cancel each other out, only one can be enabled at a time.
PRO: Performance

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT delivers impressive performance, combining power and agility for both on-road and off-road adventures. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque, enabling quick acceleration and confident handling across various terrains.
PRO: Cabin Space

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT offers a spacious and thoughtfully designed cabin that enhances comfort and practicality for both drivers and passengers. Built on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 XRT features a completely flat floor and a long wheelbase, providing generous legroom and headroom for all occupants.
PRO: Technology

The 2025 IONIQ 5 XRT is equipped with advanced technology features that enhance both convenience and connectivity. Its dual 12.3-inch displays provide intuitive access to vehicle information and entertainment, while the updated infotainment system offers faster processing and improved customization options.
CON: Interior Options

The 2025 IONIQ 5 XRT’s interior options have some limitations that may affect driver comfort and customization. Firstly, the XRT trim offers only a black interior color scheme, limiting personalization choices for buyers seeking a more diverse or lighter cabin ambiance. Additionally, the XRT lacks certain comfort features available in higher trims, such as ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof, which could be a drawback for those prioritizing luxury and comfort in their vehicle.
CON: MPGs Limited

The IONIQ 5 XRT’s off-road enhancements come with trade-offs in efficiency. Its EPA-estimated range of 259 miles is lower than that of other IONIQ 5 trims, primarily due to the added weight and reduced aerodynamics from features like all-terrain tires and rugged body pieces.
