Lamborghini’s latest concept – Sesto Elemento

Lamborghini’s at it again, this time unveiling the new Sesto Elemento concept car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. At first glance, the body shape – namely the rear boot – reminds me of the Lotus Exige. It’s a great design. Speaking of a comparison to Lotus, this Lamborghini Sesto Elemento follows suit by keeping the weight low. This concept car tips the scales at just over 2200 lbs. Practically everything is made of carbon fiber to save weight. Even the suspension components and the wheels are carbon. It doesn’t end there. Lamborghini’s engineers have gone a step further introducing an exhaust made of a glass ceramic composite withstanding temperatures of up to 900° celsius. It’s astounding.

As you’d expect from an Italian raging bull, the engine is still very much Lamborghini. The engine which is borrowed from the recent Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, is a high revving V10 boasting 570 ponies. The power is delivered via Lamborghini’s e.gear all wheel drive system which catapults the driver to 60MPH from a standing start in a staggering 2.5 seconds. It’s almost too much to comprehend.

How much of this will we see on the roadways? Difficult to say. The replacement model for the Murcielago is rumored to be unveiled in later at the Paris Motor Show. Time will tell.
